Walter Johnson Park RV Campground provides a focused set of services designed to meet the fundamental needs of RV and tent campers:
RV and Tent Sites: The campground offers a good number of sites suitable for both RVs and tents. Reviewers mention "plenty of sites," indicating good availability.
Electric Hookups: Many sites are equipped with electric hookups, a crucial amenity, especially for RVers and those needing power for their camping setup. This is particularly noted as a feature that remains available even in winter.
Level Parking Areas: Campers appreciate the "nice level parking areas," which simplifies the setup process for RVs and ensures a comfortable stay.
Restroom Facilities: While sometimes requiring a bit of searching to locate (behind the dump station on Hargis, as per a review), restrooms are available for camper use.
Shower Facilities: The campground offers showers. While they are push-button operated (cycling every 3-5 minutes, requiring re-pressing the button) and reviewers note they are "warm enough" rather than hot, they are a valuable amenity, especially in a city park setting and during colder months.
Dump Station: A black water dump station is available on Hargis, making it convenient for RVers to empty their tanks. This service alone makes the park a "little gem" for travelers needing this specific amenity.
Water Access: While not explicitly detailed for every site, the presence of a dump station and showers implies water access for essential needs.
Honor System Payment: The campground operates on an honor system, adding a touch of old-fashioned charm and convenience to the payment process. Daily rates are $15, with apparently reasonable weekly and monthly rates available.
Year-Round Operation: Crucially, this campground remains open with amenities like showers and electricity even in the winter, making it a rare and valuable option when many other parks close.
Walter Johnson Park RV Campground might not be the fanciest park, but it excels in providing key features that make it a highly practical and appreciated choice for many campers:
Affordable Rates: At $15 per night for a city park campground with amenities like electricity and showers, it’s considered a very reasonable option, especially when compared to private campgrounds. The weekly and monthly rates are also noted as "pretty reasonable," appealing to those needing longer stays.
Essential Amenities in Winter: A significant highlight is its year-round operation with essential amenities. For those traveling in colder months, finding a campground with electric hookups and, crucially, showers, can be challenging. Walter Johnson Park fills this gap admirably.
Cleanliness and Upkeep: Despite being a city park, reviewers consistently praise the park as "neat as a pin." This dedication to cleanliness, often without constant supervision, speaks to a well-maintained environment that campers can appreciate.
Level Sites: The presence of "nice level parking areas" is a major convenience for RVers, simplifying the setup process and ensuring a comfortable stay without extensive leveling adjustments.
Convenient Dump Station: The readily available black water dump station is a considerable draw, particularly for travelers who might struggle to find this service in other locations, especially as a standalone option for a quick stop.
Honor System Charm: The honor system payment method creates a trusting and laid-back atmosphere, which many visitors find refreshing and charming. It contributes to the overall easy-going nature of the park.
Peaceful and Undistracted Environment: As one New York reviewer noted, for those who don't require "fancy amenities to occupy their time," this park offers "hardly any distractions." This makes it ideal for campers who prefer a quiet, simple, and natural setting.
Strategic Location for Travelers: For those on longer road trips, like exploring Route 66, finding such a functional and affordable stop is invaluable for necessities like dumping tanks and having a place to rest.

Customer Reviews
Though there are 2 pdfs you can download with important information, neither of them mention where the campgrounds & restrooms are or what the check out time is. Repeated calls were not answered, but I managed to figure it out. The woods campground ( which is the $15 campground) is not the campground on Wood St. The $15 campground is on Hargis & 8th. The showers are behind the dump station, which is also on Hargis. Push button showers ( the shower goes off every 3- 5 minutes - no big deal. You just have to push the button again ) they weren't hot but they were warm enough. Not the best layout but also not the worst. $15 seems a bit high for a city park campground but if you are needing a place with showers or electric it is one of the only places that stays open with those amenities in the winter. Nice level parking areas and plenty of sites. Though I didn't need to stay for more than a night, the weekly and monthly rates seem pretty reasonable.
We are from NY and were doing Rt 66 and on our return trip, we were looking for a place to dump our black water. We googled it and came across this little gem of a park! This was on the 29th of September and there were only a scattered few other souls in residence. Some people require fancy amenities to occupy their time. Not us. Everything we needed was right there, and hardly any distractions! The honor system was charming and the place was neat as a pin. We only wish there was some kind of list somewhere of other places like this , if they even exist, so we could use them exclusively when we travel. Thank you; we will be back.
Grounds well kept, rent rate was good. Added feature just a few hundred feet ( within walking distance) junior college boys baseball field is located. Park area is available for different activities. Early August city/county hold the annual fair and rodeo. For additional events contact the Coffeyville Chamber .
Great park; can't beat the price. Wonderful water pressure! Only complaint is that some sites could be longer for.longer rigs. No room to park our pickup after unhooking; didn't want to park on grass.
Lots of mosquitoes! Nothing fancy, near fairground. Has full hookups. We paid $15.00 per night.
