Walter's Camp is strategically located at 2556 Walters Camp Rd, Palo Verde, CA 92266, USA. This prime address places it directly on the Lower Colorado River, providing immediate access to one of California's most cherished waterways. For Californians, especially those in Southern California, its location offers a relatively accessible retreat from major metropolitan areas like Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, yet far enough to feel truly removed from city life. It's situated between Blythe, CA, and Yuma, AZ, making it a convenient stop for travelers or a dedicated destination for a longer stay. While the approach might involve a few miles down a rougher dirt road, as some reviews suggest, the tranquility and riverside access upon arrival are well worth the journey. This easy accessibility to the Colorado River and the surrounding desert means less time traveling and more time enjoying the fishing, boating, and off-roading adventures that await.
Walter's Camp prides itself on providing a comprehensive array of services and facilities designed to make your camping experience comfortable, convenient, and truly enjoyable. From essential amenities to thoughtful provisions, they aim to cater to a variety of needs.
- RV Campsites with Hookups: The camp offers numerous RV sites, with many providing full hookups (electric, water, and potentially sewer) available on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Campers have noted that water hookups are available, though it's advised for dishwashing rather than direct RV tank filling due to its source.
- Tent and Dry Camping Areas: For those who prefer a more traditional or rustic experience, Walter's Camp has dedicated areas for tent camping and dry camping. These areas can accommodate very large groups, including scout troops, canoe groups, and corporate retreats.
- Clean Restroom Facilities: Well-maintained restroom facilities, including showers, are available for all campers. Reviewers specifically mention "clean facilities and plenty of hot water" in the showers, with good water pressure.
- General Store: A convenient on-site general store is available, stocked with essential items like beer, soda, ice, snacks, basic grocery items, sunblock, and merchandise. This is a huge convenience, especially given the camp's somewhat secluded location.
- Bar and Pool Table: The general store also features a bar (serving beer/wine only) and a pool table, providing a social hub for campers, particularly when the camp is in full swing after Memorial Day.
- Fuel Dock: For boaters, there is a dedicated fuel dock, ensuring easy access to fuel without having to leave the river.
- Easy Boat Launch Ramp: A concrete boat ramp is available for easy and direct launching of canoes, kayaks, and larger boats onto the Colorado River channel, designed to avoid fighting strong currents.
- Additional Open Storage Area: Monthly open storage is available for those who need to store their vehicles or equipment.
- Accepts Major Credit Cards and Mobile Pay: For convenience, Walter's Camp accepts all major credit cards, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay.
Walter's Camp truly shines with its unique features and highlights, which consistently earn it glowing reviews and make it a beloved destination for a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts. These aspects are what create the memorable experiences visitors cherish.

Customer Reviews
Our first stay at Walter's Camp was an amazing experience! The fishing was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, and even the other campers were welcoming—many shared great tips to help us catch more fish. We especially loved that our campsite was right on the water. It was peaceful, relaxing, and perfect for a family getaway. We’ll definitely be back!
Visited Walter's Camp on my first canoe camp trip on 3/13/25. I was pleased to see that it wasn't busy. Tabitha, the camp host helped me get set up and gave me the lay of the land. The general store has a few items, merchandise, and even a bar back that is used when the camp is in full swing after Memorial Day according to Tabitha. I chose a far site at the edge of the property underneath two tamarisk/salt cedar trees which was great for shade. I launched my canoe at the concrete boat ramp and paddled the old Colorado River channel right out in front of the camp which is not lacking in it's scenery of Cibola Natl Wildlife Refuge and the beautiful Trigo Mountains Wilderness viewable eastward. Nighttime is where things came alive! Dozens of braying burros, coyotes, and owls that would hoot up a storm in the trees above me. An a/c or refrigeration until by the general store ran in cycles all night and was about as annoying as someone running a generator. The facilities provided had showers and pit toilets, all in good condition. Taking a moment to stretch/yoga before the morning paddle in the communal hang out area in front of the general store was a great idea. I was greeted by an amazing SW sherbet sunrise over the calm waters of the inner channel of the Colorado, it was spectacular. I'm typically a dispersed camper, so some of my gripes about the noise you can probably take with a grain of salt. Would I stay the night again? Sure, but I'd prefer something a bit more isolated. Thank you Tabitha for all your advice on boating the river as a novice, appreciate what you do!
I have been coming to this location for 30 + years now taking my kids here. Fishing never disappoints. Best sleep of my life right here in a tent next to the water. Convent little store to go cool down in play a game of pool and get some worms for fishing the new hosts are wonderful and Robert is awesome see ya soon….
If your looking to get away from everyone and everything this is the place to be. Only town near by with a store is about a 45 min drive. The road getting to this camp site is ruff for about 10 miles. 4x4 really is needed. Herds of Donkeys is the only wild life we seen. The night sky is amazing... The owner was really nice and accommodating. A little on the expensive side if you ask me but other then that it was beautiful. Thanks for having us!
Quiet backwater camping with a pretty view of the desert. Great for duck hunters. Great for peace and quiet.
