Wapiti Campground (Canmore) Introduce

Located in the picturesque town of Canmore, Alberta, Wapiti Campground offers a practical and accessible camping experience for travelers exploring the Canadian Rockies. Situated at 100 Ray McBride St, this campground is an ideal stop-over for those looking to rest and recharge amidst breathtaking mountain views and natural surroundings.

Wapiti Campground provides essential amenities for campers, including bathroom facilities and shower options. However, it’s important to note that some services, such as shower tokens, may require advance planning, as staff may not be available during evening hours. While the campground is conveniently located near major routes, some visitors have noted noise from nearby freeways and trains, which may affect the tranquility of the experience.

Despite these challenges, Wapiti Campground remains a popular choice for its strategic location and proximity to Canmore’s attractions. The town itself is a must-visit destination, offering hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and charming local shops. For travelers who find other campgrounds fully booked, Wapiti serves as a reliable alternative.

  • Convenient location near Canmore and major travel routes.
  • Basic amenities including bathrooms and showers (tokens required).
  • Stunning mountain views and easy access to outdoor activities.
  • Affordable option for a quick stop-over or short stay.

Customer feedback highlights both the pros and cons of Wapiti Campground. Many appreciate its convenience and affordability, especially when other campgrounds are full. One reviewer shared, “Canmore is worth the stop!!!! So this makes a convenient and possible option when other places are full. I’m glad it’s here and would stay again.” However, some visitors have noted areas for improvement, such as the cleanliness of facilities and the availability of staff during evening hours. Another reviewer mentioned, “The charge is crazy expensive if you’re not sharing tents. One of the worst campground experiences I’ve had.”

Overall, Wapiti Campground is a practical choice for travelers seeking a quick and accessible camping spot in the Canmore area. While it may not offer a luxurious experience, its location and affordability make it a viable option for those exploring the Canadian Rockies.

mixed review. good for a stop-over but get there early it fills up fast! bathrooms need tokens and staff are no onsite to buy from in the evening. bathrooms were also dirty. freeway noise and views meant we didn't sit outside. BUT canmore is worth the stop!!!! so this makes a convenient and possible option when other places are full. i'm glad it's here and would stay again.

What do you get for your money? Bathroom had no tp, soap, paper towel (some guy used those cardboard rolls to wipe himself and left them on top of the toilet). Couldn't buy shower tokens as service attendant not around. Noisy (wait for the train) and ground was hard. Also, charge is crazy expensive if you're not sharing tents. One of the worst campground experiences I've had. Recommend to stay away

We were kicked out by the host. When we arrived there was no one at the office but there was registration card with envelope outside next to the office. We picked out a site that was not occupied filled out the registration card left it on the electrical post then we presume to set up our camper. After the camper set up went to check the office to pay..a lady host was there to take the payment. Soon after the hosts both of them came to tell us that we have to go that the site was reserved to a German family and no other sites available. I explained to him that there was no card that said occupied on the post. He said he had put one on there half hour ago. Fine I said return our money. I can’t help but feel discriminated as we were the only First Nations family I noticed at that campground. I don’t like to pass judgement like this. Not a good feeling to have.

Jasper: It’s a great camping site and we choose to stay here because it has washrooms and shower rooms available. They’re clean and well - maintained. The showers were quite far from our tent and we had to take the car each time. $40+ a night is definitely great value for money.

Stayed 1 night and would never stay there again! The campground was nothing special. We have been travelling for 3 weeks now, and it was the worst experience so far! The bathrooms were gross, no toilet paper, hand soap or towel for drying your hands. The people who run the place live in a van and have a no trespassing sign in front of the van, so they don’t care. Save your money and stay somewhere else.
