DO NOT GO TO THE ADDRESS ON GOOGLE MAPS OR APPLE MAPS. me and my friend were trying to find this campground and maps took us down some dude’s driveway. as we were turning around to leave, him and his wife come out screaming at us to leave and threatening to sick their dog on us. I think someone posted the correct coordinates just wanted to let yall know not to make the mistake we did
Do not at all cost follow the directions on maps. It will take you to the home of an individual in the area who is not friendly. My wife and I visited on a roadtrip from Alaska. We routed the location and started our drive without thinking as we did every morning from Alaska. When we got to the destination an Appalachian came out of his house screaming at us to turn around. We immediately did and found the campsite. An hour later we got an eerie feeling to leave and packed up. As we were about to drive out of the campsite the same man came flying into the lot and screamed while pointing at our vehicle. We drove out and were chased at speeds upward of 70 mph. My wife called 911 while being chased and they said to get out of the hills is all. Park is a beautiful spot but the populace may not be as friendly.
10/18/2024. The location of War Ridge Campground is not well marked map apps. There isn’t a sign where to turn off of the local road. So—the gps coordinates for the campground are 37.84505° N, 80.98506° W. The campground has 8 sites and is wide open with little shade. Enough room for larger rv’s. One porta potti. It is on a gravel road that continues for a couple miles with nothing at the end of it. Because it is hard to find, it is more likely to have open sites when the other campgrounds are full.
I forgot to take a picture of the actual campground, but this is the gravel road leading up to it! This site has about 6 spots close together, with picnic tables and fire pits. There is a portapotty on site, but it’s the cleanest I’ve ever used. I was the only person to stay here and it’s free 👍 Plus it’s only 20min from the iconic mill in Babcock state park!
At the top of a mountain peak, so there is a nice breeze that you need in the summer for sure. West Virginia is very humid. The only facility is a porta potty, fine by me. I am always prepared with water and my own toilet! This is a free campsite. There are 10 spots and they are not on top of each other. They have picnic tables and fire pits.If you do come here, be prepared. Including bear spray.
