Ward Haven Camp & Retreat Center

We have lived here for 25+ years with this beautiful historical camp in our front yard, literally. It has always been well kept with a nice walking trail and beautiful views. As neighbors, we are glad that the camp is being revived for activities. Church groups for meetings, picnics, summer camps, college groups and Boy Scout groups have benefited over the years from the diverse activities that can be offered here. I will ask that the new owners and visitors be made aware that sound carries a great distance here in "the country." I say this because, especially now when the leaves start to fall and groups come in with their sound equipment and instruments and music, it gets very loud. Last weekend I could hear the thumping beat over my television. The sound actually carries to the top of the mountain on the Appalachian Trail. Several years ago, I was hiking on the trail with my son on a Sunday morning. There was a man coming toward us and he commented on the loud party someone was having. He was surprised when I told him it was coming from the bottom of the mountain. I do not want these groups to not enjoy their time out here, they just need to be aware of how loud and how far their celebrations carry and be aware of those who live out here. I have camped at Ward Haven several times when my son was in scouting and his Eagle project was done here. My aunt was a member of North Roanoke Baptist one of the churches that spent time here and helped keep it up, back in the day. I am very glad that the property was purchased to continue the tradition of celebrating and worshiping outdoors.

Very nice location with good cabins, gazebos, and pavilion. Everything is close to each other, which was nice. It is kept up very well, and bathrooms were good. Only complaints was the fact that the water did not taste good.

Run by really nice people who helped me out last weekend. While i was there i took a look at the grounds, definitely somewhere i would of enjoyed as a kid.

Ward Haven is an awesome place to be . I would highly recommend this place for your church group outing.ward Haven holds a special place in my heart .I love this place .
