As one satisfied customer noted, it’s a "great small town park" that leaves visitors feeling thankful for the town's hospitality and willingness to host the traveling public.

This article provides a detailed guide for Kansas users, highlighting the services, accessibility, and features that make the Washington City Campground a top choice for a short or extended stay in Washington, KS.

### Overview: Convenience and Value in Washington, KS

The Washington City Campground is managed directly by the City of Washington and is integrated into the larger municipal park system. Its purpose is clear: to provide comfortable, utility-equipped camping at an extremely affordable rate. The prevailing nightly rate is notably low—typically $15 per night**—making it one of the most budget-friendly options for RV camping with electric and water hookups in the region.

The campground features approximately 20 RV spaces, which cater mainly to recreational vehicles and pull-behind trailers. The sites are generally level and situated within the scenic park, often benefiting from the shade of mature trees, which is a major highlight, especially during the warm summer months. Because the city does not accept reservations, all spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, a fact travelers should keep in mind, especially during major events like the adjacent Washington County Fair and Rodeo.

The maximum stay is generous, allowing guests to stay for no more than 30 consecutive nights, which accommodates long-term travelers or those in the area for temporary work assignments, although the primary use is often a quick, comfortable overnight stop.

### Location and Accessibility

The Washington City Campground is exceptionally well-located for ease of access and proximity to local attractions, making it a perfect base for exploring Washington County.

The primary location is within the City Park, with the main address often cited as:

1000 Park Rd, Washington, KS 66968, USA (Often associated with 1100 D Street)

The campground is strategically positioned near the Mill Creek Dam, offering opportunities for nature walks and bird watching, and is central to the town's recreational hub. Accessibility from nearby highways is simple, making it an easy-to-find detour for those traveling through North Central Kansas. The internal roads and layout are designed to handle RVs, and many of the sites are noted for being easy to back into or, in some cases, are designated as pull-through spots.

The payment system is convenient for travelers: fees can be deposited into the drop box at the campground or paid at City Hall, streamlining the registration process for late arrivals. Its placement within the park, close to all the recreational amenities, solidifies its reputation as the "best RV park in town if you love trees and parks."

### Services Offered

For its low nightly fee, Washington City Campground provides an impressive array of essential services, ensuring a comfortable and complete camping experience, particularly for RV users.

  • Electric Hookups: All approximately 20 RV sites include 20-amp and 30-amp electric hookups. Importantly, the campground also offers two dedicated 50-amp connections for larger, modern RVs requiring higher power.
  • Water Hookups: Water is available via several spigots/hydrants located throughout the campground (generally three main spigots are noted), which are easily accessible for filling up tanks.
  • Dump Station: A sanitary dump station is conveniently located near the entrance of the campsite, allowing for easy black/grey water disposal before departure.
  • Restrooms and Showers: Clean bathrooms with showers are available to campers. Note that these facilities are sometimes located a short distance away, often near the adjacent swimming pool, but their presence is a huge benefit for all campers.
  • Potable Water: Both potable and non-potable water are available on site.
  • First-Come, First-Served: The park operates entirely on a first-come, first-served basis, simplifying arrival (though requiring flexibility during peak season).

### Features / Highlights

The Washington City Campground offers much more than just a place to park; it provides an amenity-rich experience due to its integration with the City Park.

  • Integrated City Park Access: Campers have direct access to the wider City Park amenities, which include two baseball/softball fields, sand volleyball courts, a basketball court, and tennis/pickleball courts—all often lit for evening play.
  • Munchkinland Playground: The park is home to the famous Munchkinland Playground, an elaborate, volunteer-built playground with a Kansas/Oz theme, offering hours of fun for children, including features like an Emerald Castle and a Tot Town.
  • Swimming Pool: During the summer months, the new swimming pool, featuring zero-depth entry, is open, providing a fantastic way for campers to cool off and enjoy family time (admission fees may apply).
  • Fitness Trail: A meandering fitness trail surrounds the park area, featuring 12 fitness stations along the path, ideal for walking, jogging, or a focused outdoor workout.
  • Washington County Fairgrounds Proximity: The park is adjacent to the Washington County Fairgrounds, meaning campers are perfectly situated for enjoying events like the county fair, rodeo, and 3/4 Midget races during the summer season.
