Washunga Campground Introduce
For Oklahomans seeking a serene lakeside escape with ample space and essential amenities, Washunga Campground at Kaw Lake in Kaw City offers a promising destination. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this large campground provides a tranquil setting for RVs and tents, allowing visitors to connect with the natural beauty of north-central Oklahoma. Known for its generally clean environment and peaceful atmosphere, Washunga Campground is an attractive option for those looking to enjoy fishing, boating, and a quiet retreat by the water.
Washunga Campground, often referred to as Washunga Bay Campground, has been described by visitors as a "large, clean campground" featuring "water, power and relatively level sites." This makes it a welcoming spot for a variety of campers, from those in large RVs to individuals looking for a quiet tent camping experience. Each campsite is thoughtfully equipped with a fire ring and picnic table, enhancing the traditional camping experience and facilitating outdoor meals and gatherings. The availability of dumpsters at the entrance is a convenient feature for trash disposal, and the noted "abundance of firewood for use" suggests that campers can easily enjoy cozy campfires under the Oklahoma sky.
However, it's crucial for prospective visitors to be aware of certain conditions that have been reported. While the campground is generally peaceful and well-maintained, there have been instances where water advisories, specifically "boil orders," were in effect. One review highlighted that such an order was only noted on a sheet of paper at the entrance, not on the booking site. Furthermore, issues with "oily substance in it" have been reported regarding the water, leading to the closure of showers and flush toilets at times. These factors underscore the importance of checking current conditions and water quality advisories directly with the campground or the managing authority prior to arrival, especially if planning to rely on on-site water for drinking or personal hygiene. Despite these past concerns, the overarching sentiment from multiple reviews points to a "clean and peaceful" environment, suggesting that when conditions are optimal, Washunga Campground offers a very enjoyable and relaxing camping experience on the shores of Kaw Lake.

Customer Reviews
It’s a large, clean campground with water, power and relatively level sites. Dumpsters are available at the entrance for trash and there’s an abundance of firewood for use. The RV dump has flushing water available with a non-threaded drop. Each camp has a fire ring and picnic table. It was quiet the week we were there so it really deserves five stars but…. This location has a boil order for the water. This order is not mentioned, let alone listed on the booking site but there is a note at the entrance on a sheet of paper. The water has an oily substance in it so if you’re thinking of using it for showers, know what’s going in your plumbing. All the showers were closed as well as the flush toilets. Maybe it was because of the time of year or maybe because the water isn’t too good on the plumbing. If I had known what I was connecting to, I would not have hooked my hoses.
always clean and peaceful.
Can't put tent by water very disappointed
I'll be honest. Look like a great campground. However, we were just there to launch the boat and that was a great doc. A great boat launch!
The Catfish have observation stations....counting every boat launched and the number of fishermen aboard. There is local concern for the thousands of catfish being kidnapped and taken to Kansas. Be cautious with your stories "about limits" As there are people listening and repeating....numerous times Tales of weight and numbers Slipping thru the Camp Host gateway....without even a nod To the Game Warden.
