Watauga Lakeshore Resort and Marina

Our first day on the water with the older Avalon was damn near perfect. (July 27). All seven of us had a blast tubing, riding and swimming. I took my mother out 10 days later, and since it was just the two of us, I rented the smaller fishing vessel to motor around and swim and fish. The first for hours was stunning, until the engine lost its go fast juju. Spent the next two hours motoring the length of the lake, back to the marina. Ended up being towed in the last quarter mile and given a replacement boat that was good for the last two hours. Bottom line, the pontoons are awesome, and the smaller fishing boats should be avoided as they have given staff and guests a lot of headaches. Shout out to Shaggy and Chelsea. You're super cool and good at what you do. Kindness goes a long way!

I came in the marina at 1:45pm on Tuesday 8/20/24 with my father and my son, and was denied a pontoon boat rental by the young man behind the counter. He was very disrespectful the way he talked to my 75 year old dad. Not even getting up out of his chair, he just coldly kept saying that it was their policy that they could not rent out boats past 1pm. We wanted to rent a boat for 3 hours, was ready to pay $300+ dollars, and would have had the boat back by 5pm. The marina closed at 6pm. We would have had the boat back an hour ahead of time. Very disappointing, especially when we called the place ahead of time when planning our vacation and there was no mention of a cut-off time. The reason I gave 2 stars instead of one, was that the young man did a moment of compassion on us and on the way out the door, he told us to try the next marina down the road a few miles, which we did and rented a pontoon boat there and had a great afternoon. Its just hard to believe that a business would turn down $300 dollars and not rent us a boat for 3 hours, when there was more than 4 hours left in the business day. Something doesn't add up. And kindness goes a long way, by the way.

Rented a pontoon for a day of fishing with a friend that grew up fishing this lake. Blaine that manages the marina was stellar!. Decking in pontoon was newish and boat ran like a charm. No fish caught that day, but any day on the water is a great day IMO. Cabin overlooking the lake had a great view.

Whenever me and my family came to water lakeshore resort and Marina to pick up our boat that I had rented for the day. The staff was very good to us, and we even got upgraded to a premium boat. Because of difficulties, finding the ones that I rented. Which was great and we were very happy with that. I give this place a ten out of ten plan to be renting more and more at the marina and highly recommend 👌 👍 👏

We reserved the newest 24' premium pontoon for tubing and it was a fun time. The kids and adventurous adults enjoyed it. It had a 115 horsepower engine but ultimately I think it was slightly underpowered for the best tubing experience. We also rented a 20' fishing boat for the fishermen in our group. We also rented a tube to cool off after fishing. Unfortunately our fishing boat's engine died the day before our reservation. The marina called us the day before notifying us of the fact which was nice, however they only had the single fishing boat and we had to switch to a pontoon and pay the difference which was disappointing. The pontoon we were allotted was dilapidated and the engine's trim functionally wasn't working so we weren't able to use it for tubing (too slow to get the tuber outside the wake). The guys running the rentals were courteous and answered all of our questions. We just wish the second boat met our expectations.
