What we hoped would be a nice three day visit with my grown daughters turned into a bad experience. We rented cabin1 for three nights and found the interior nice. Unfortunately , the screened back porch was very dirty. The back steps had rotted boards, making for a hazardous situation. The worse thing was the pontoon we had rented for a full day. To begin with we were supposed to have it from 8am to 4pm. We arrived at the office at 7:45 and no body came. After many phone calls to an answering machine, someone finally showed up at 10:15. We lost three hours of our time. The boat we were scheduled for was in terrible condition, and in the words of the gentleman who finally showed up to assist us “was damaged and to be taken out for maintenance”. He was good enough to upgrade us to a new pontoon at no extra cost. But, when we tried to extend the next day, they tried to have us take the old boat. Needless to say we canceled our last day and checked out. The facility itself is in a bad state of disrepair. The log buildings are rotting, the children’s playground is full of roots and trash and the whole place looks very unkempt. We have stayed in the campground several times over the past years, but have found the overall facility to have gone downhill. We will not be returning.
This beach used to be beautiful when Curt ran it. Been coming since 2014. They no longer maintain the beach. It's disgusting, mucky, dirty, and overgrown. The pavilion is also dirty and coveted in broken glass. I can't believe Shaw AFB allows this. Breaks my heart!
We r military and RV. Plus I'm from Camden. Which is about a 15 minute drive into town. There's a walmart and all. When you go into Camden to stock up. You have to stop at Blackmons Little Midget. We have 6 generations who have eaten there hot dogs. I love the sink or slaw dog. They also have burgers etc. This is a military campground. Nice, quite camping. Cabins, tent, boating, fishing, pavilion or just come down for the day to swim. If u swim wear water shoes. There r I think some type of shell/clam what ever in the beach area when entering the water. U can thank me later. Enjoy
It surprised me exactly how well maintained the grounds were! The only small issue I had was with the long term tent campers, they seemed to either have trash around their tents or filled up the trash cans rather than using the dumpsters
I would just like to thank the men and women who work hard to help maintain this amazing facility. The last time I came here was 30 years ago as a kid. My family recently stayed in Cabin 16, one of their newer cabins, and it was beautiful. A convenient walk to the docks where I kept my boat moored, and the grounds was meticulously clean. If you bring a boat, be careful on the ramp as it’s shallower than I would like when launching. But that’s probably due to them drawing down the lake some. Thanks again.
