π² **Introduction / Overview**
For Nebraska residents and visitors alike seeking an unparalleled outdoor experience, **Weigand Campground** stands out as a prime destination. As the headquarters area of the expansive Lewis & Clark State Recreation Area (SRA), Weigand Campground offers a comprehensive blend of rustic beauty and modern convenience right on the shores of Lewis & Clark Lake, one of Nebraska's largest reservoirs. This stunning location, fed by the mighty Missouri River, draws its name from the historic Lewis and Clark Expedition that once journeyed nearby, giving every visit a connection to the state's rich history and a spectacular natural backdrop.
The campground caters to a wide variety of outdoor enthusiasts, whether you're bringing a full-sized RV, a pop-up camper, or simply a tent for a night under the stars. Visitors consistently praise the campground for its relaxing atmosphere, well-maintained grounds, and the gorgeous views, particularly those sites nestled on the bluffs overlooking the river and lake. Being part of the larger Lewis & Clark SRA, Weigand provides access to miles of shoreline, thousands of acres of open water, and diverse recreational opportunities, making it a true jewel of Northeast Nebraska's outdoor landscape.
Guests should always remember that a **Nebraska State Park Permit** is required for all vehicles entering the area, which is separate from the camping fees. The park operates year-round, though some water and shower facilities are seasonal (typically April/May through October, weather permitting), offering fantastic off-season rates for those who enjoy the peace and solitude of a quieter camp experience, like finding yourself "the only ones here in the entire park" during a crisp, mid-March stay.
πΊοΈ **Location and Accessibility**
Weigand Campground is perfectly situated to be a convenient escape for many Nebraskans. It is located approximately seven to nine miles north of the small, friendly community of **Crofton, Nebraska**, on Nebraska Highway 121, then four miles west on Highway 54C. The specific geographical setting places the campground right on the southern shore of Lewis & Clark Lake, offering easy access to both the reservoir and the Missouri River.
The official area for contact is:
Crofton, NE 68730, USA
While the campground feels remote enough to offer a genuine escape into nature, its proximity to Crofton and major state highways ensures it is readily accessible for weekend trips or extended vacations. The area's main roads are well-maintained, providing simple access for large RVs and trailers. Furthermore, the presence of 4-bar or 5G cell service at many campsites, complemented by a Wi-Fi hotspot available at the park office/headquarters, ensures that campers can stay connected if they choose, balancing the desire for nature with essential communication needs.
π οΈ **Services Offered**
Weigand Campground, as the primary hub of Lewis & Clark SRA, offers a robust array of services to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for nearly every type of camper. These services cover everything from basic site amenities to essential park infrastructure:

β **What is Worth Choosing**
Weigand Campground is undeniably the premier choice for outdoor recreation in this corner of Nebraska, offering a combination of features that is hard to match. The primary reason for choosing Weigand is its location as the **central hub of the Lewis & Clark State Recreation Area**βmeaning you have the best access to park headquarters, the largest concentration of modern facilities, and the biggest selection of electric hookup campsites. The convenience of having everything from a camp store to boat ramps right within your immediate camping area greatly enhances the experience.
Furthermore, the campground offers genuine **flexibility for all camping styles**. Whether you're an experienced RV traveler needing 50-amp service or a traditionalist looking for a secluded, large tent site on a bluff overlooking the water, Weigand accommodates. This inclusivity, combined with the assurance of clean facilities (seasonal showers and restrooms) and basic comforts like picnic tables and fire rings at every site, ensures a stress-free experience.
Beyond the logistics, what truly sets Weigand apart is the **sheer scope of recreational activities**. The opportunity to combine hiking and frisbee golf with immediate access to Lewis & Clark Lake for fishing, swimming, and boating creates a multi-day adventure that appeals to families, groups, and solo explorers alike. Even during the quieter off-season, the campground maintains its appeal, offering discounted rates and a sense of peaceful seclusion that is often a welcome break from the busy summer rush. Weigand Campground truly provides a 'hit the jackpot' experience for Nebraskans looking to maximize their time in the beautiful Great Plains outdoors.

Stayed here last weekend, and we hit the jackpot on our site - it was gorgeous! (1st morning was crisp and clear - 2nd morning was smokey from the Canadian wild fires). Super relaxing campground.
We are staying at a basic tent camping site. There is available to us a pit toilet. Water is still shut down for the season. Luckily, they do offer off-season rates. A Nebraska park permit is required for your vehicle. Picnic table and fire ring are also here for us. We are the only ones here in the entire park (mid-March 2025). Grounds are clean. Our site (site 5) is very large, and located on a small Bluff above the Missouri river. Walking paths, frisbee golf, playgrounds, fishing, and boating are all available. I have 4 bars of 5G cell service at my camp site. A WIFI hot spot is available at the camp office as well.
Really nice campground. They have walk up spots and reserved. Great view of the river. Our spot was 50 amp and plenty of shade. Fill station for water when you come in.
It is one of the most beautiful parks in Nebraska on the Missouri River. I love spending a few weeks every year in the fall: breathtaking views, great hiking areas, and plenty to do and see.
Good: Very quiet park. Enjoyed seeing the Canadian Geese and deer. Bad: Had to pay $90 for 2 vehicle permits besides the camping fee. No water and sewer hookup at site, had to feed the public shower quarters. The dirty shower room had 1 hook for clothes and towel. Bathroom had cobwebs (black spiders) and leaking toilet, floor was slippery. Public notice the beach tested positive for ecoli. Park roads and road to Weigand are pathetic!
