Whether you're traveling by RV, tent, or even a pop-up trailer, this campground is an ideal basecamp for exploring the natural wonders of Montana's Glacier Country.
What makes West Blankeship River Access particularly special is its free camping option. Some visitors have described their experience at West Blankeship River Access as transformative. One family shared how they found the campground during a stressful search for accommodations in Glacier National Park due to COVID-19 restrictions. They were able to camp along the riverfront for free, which allowed them to explore the park without the hassle of expensive or unavailable campsites.
While the lack of facilities can be challenging for some, it adds to the charm and authenticity of the camping experience. Visitors should note that the road leading down to the beach is rugged, so a high-clearance vehicle or 4x4 is recommended. Additionally, flash flooding in the area is something to be aware of, though most visitors have not encountered severe issues during their stays.

Stayed here a couple of nights and explored the surrounding areas. You can park on the beach or find spots that are more secluded. However, you won't ever be far from other people either way. Beautiful scenery and clean water.
This place was a complete lifesaver. My two daughters and myself traveled here to see Glacier National Park on an epic summer road trip. When we arrived at Glacier, all the campgrounds were closed down due to Covid except for one. It was a lottery each morning to get a spot inside the park. We were so stressed driving around with out little pop up tent trailer trying to find a spot. The woman at the RV park told us to download iOverlander app. That is when we found this sneaky little free campground. I was only a few minutes up the road from the park and we were able to set up camp on the shoreline and camp for a few nights for free. We were lined up along the beach with a bunch of other hippie campers and it was an incredible experience. I would've given it 5 stars except there were a few things that not-so-experiences campers may be wary of. The road to get down to the beach from the main road is really rutted out. If I wasn't driving a big 4x4 truck, I'm not sure I would've made it in and out safely. There are no facilities at this beach. This is true nature camping. We did have an incident in the middle of the night on our first night where lightening was striking just across the river from us. It was a bit a terrifying. The rain caused the sand under the trailer to sink in a bit and our trailer almost tipped over. I had to get up in the middle of the night and secure the trailer. I also heard this area can be subject to flash flooding, however, we didn't experience anything like this and the only night we had weather was that first night. Otherwise it was all sunshine and we could open our door to the trailer to a beautiful river view. We had a fire and roasted marshmallows on the beach in the evenings with our neighbors who were also fellow adventurers. The best part is we didn't have to pay a dime for a few nights camping while we visited the park. We left the trailer locked up on the beach while we explored the park and no one messed with it or tried to steal any of our stuff. Overall it was an amazing experience, even the scary lightening stuff felt like a pretty cool story to tell.
High water has seriously eroded the banks making it tricky to navigate back along the shoreline however with caution it can be done but with less options than pre-flood times.
Inaccessible without high clearance 4wd. Roads totally rutted out. Guessing the county would prefer people not use
Try to avoid camping here on weekends when it’s more crowded. Several transient types living in their best to hell vehicles. Outhouses around by they were pretty full.
Super rad place to pull off and camp. Took our 99 Eurovan down there. @wanderlustmoonduo
