Beautiful, but come prepared! Make sure you come fully aware that there is no washroom, shower, electricity or water available. There is no cellular service. It gets very cold at night. I camped in a tent and was well equipped for these challenges, and enjoyed my stay. Being so disconnected from the modern world for a night made me feel like a real adventurer! The roads are winding and narrow as you get closer to the campsite. Drive slowly, be prepared to move / slow your vehicle to accommodate oncoming vehicles, and keep a GPS to consult. My Garmin GPS had no trouble guiding me to the campsite.
Campground is currently closed (not sure if it's seasonal or fire ban?). The hike to Hells hole, which starts just beyond the campground, is lovely though, 8 miles, lots of beautiful aspens at the start.
Nice campground! Camp site was spacious and had a fire ring, picnic table, and bear proof storage. Trail nearby for a nice hike. Camp host has firewood for sale.
Hiking i took west chicago creek trail from echo park ....this was an amazing exoerience and i highly recomend. If ir out of shape its a but strenuous but well worth the leg burn
Small, quiet spot to stay overnight or for a couple nights. Attendant on-site was helpful and friendly (Roger). You can hear the rushing of the nearby mountain creek. You’ll go up through a couple small switchbacks as the campground is high up in the mountain. Very clean vault bathrooms. Be prepared for no-see-um’s, flies and bee’s (in late June). Also has a nice fire ring with built in grill as well as your own bear proof food storage.
