West Lake Davy Crockett Campground Introduce
**Introduction / Overview: Experience Authentic, Rustic Camping on Lake Crockett**
For Texans who embrace the traditional, self-sufficient style of camping, **West Lake Davy Crockett Campground** offers an ideal, scenic retreat in the Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands. Located on the northwest shore of **Lake Crockett**, this small, focused campground is managed by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and operates on a **first-come, first-served basis** only, ensuring spontaneous access to a natural, peaceful environment. The campground’s deliberate lack of modern hookups promotes a return to basic outdoor living, perfect for those looking to unplug from the electric grid and reconnect with nature.
The reviews clearly define the nature of the experience: it’s a **“nice place”** known for its simplicity and affordability. While some modern campers may lament the **“no electricity”**—the primary reason for a lowered rating—this is precisely the feature that appeals to others seeking a truly rustic getaway. Facilities include essentials such as a **compost toilet** (often called a pit toilet), which is noted as being **“ok,”** and **“several well pumps for water.”** With only **12 campsites** available, this small campground next to the lake guarantees a quiet, less crowded experience, making it a beloved spot for those who prefer tent camping or small, self-contained RVs equipped for primitive conditions.

**Location and Accessibility: A Hidden Gem in the Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands**
**West Lake Davy Crockett Campground** is tucked away in the beautiful North Texas landscape at **942 FM409, Honey Grove, TX 75446, USA**. This address places it approximately 12 miles north of Honey Grove, Texas, within the boundaries of the **Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands**. The location is one of two USFS-operated access points on the lake (the East site being the other).
Access is gained via well-maintained Farm to Market roads, with the turn onto FM 409 leading directly to the west side of the lake and the campground entrance. While the terrain is naturally wooded and rustic, the route is easily navigable for most tow vehicles and RVs, though the sites themselves are better suited for smaller rigs due to the tight layout and focus on tent/primitive camping. Its location provides immediate access to the 450-acre Lake Crockett, offering excellent opportunities for fishing and non-motorized boating. The closest full-service town is Honey Grove, ensuring that supplies and local amenities are a short drive away from your peaceful lakeside basecamp.

Customer Reviews
It's a nice place, no electricity is the reason for the 3 star. Compost toilet is ok. Several well pumps for water. Boat ramp is sketchy.
Small campground. There are two water wells, pit toilets one each for men and women, picnic tables, fire pit, barbeque grill, pole for lantern. You take your trash with you when you leave. No boat dock at this camp ground. Next to the lake.
If I could give more stars I would. Unbelievably beautiful and serene. Quiet, and a perfect spot for a weekend getaway!
Calm and relaxing and they keep the bathrooms clean. will camp here again.
pretty little campground. $4 a night or $2 a night if you have a pass. can’t beat that!
