Westwood Park Introduce
Westwood Park, located at 1900 S County Rd 275 W, New Castle, IN 47362, and reachable at (765) 987-1232 or +1 765-987-1232, falls under the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. This park offers a combination of lake activities and camping facilities, making it a potential destination for local outdoor enthusiasts.
Based on customer reviews, Westwood Park has historically been a popular fishing spot. However, recent feedback suggests a decline in the abundance of certain fish species, specifically gills, possibly due to changes in the lake's fish population. There is also a suggestion that the shoreline around the campground needs upgrades to make it more convenient for campers to launch their boats.
Despite the concerns about fishing and shoreline conditions, Westwood Park is praised for its friendly staff and clean facilities. It is described as a "hidden gem" by some visitors. The park management is commended for maintaining the grounds, including trimming trees to prevent damage to RVs at campsites.
The park appears to offer a blend of recreational activities, including fishing and camping. While some improvements may be needed regarding the lake's shoreline and fish population, the park's friendly staff and well-maintained facilities contribute to a positive camping experience.
In summary, Westwood Park offers camping and lake access, with friendly staff and clean facilities. Potential visitors should be aware of the reported changes in fish population and the need for shoreline improvements. If you are looking for a campground and RV park, it is recommended to consider this location for its friendly staff and clean facilities, but to also be aware of the fishing and shoreline concerns.

Used to love this lake. Gills aren't as abundant since a lot of the bass were taken out. Wonder if gills were taken out too. Need to upgrade the shoreline around the campground. Not very good for campers to bank their boats
Hidden Gem! They have the friendliest staff! Facilities are always clean! The trees are trimmed away from the camp sites so we don’t need to be worried about damage to RV’s.
It is the cleanest and quietest campground I've been at. I love it here. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get away and enjoy nature. Do some fishing. The lake is not size. It is probably motor only very kayak, canoe friendly. You can do some hiking or walking on trails. There's a small playground for kids. Bathroom facilities and showers are very clean. The RV spots are pretty flat, easy to level out an RV. Each campground spot is large. You've got plenty of room.
I heard about Westwood in a FB camping group. Since I was interested in finding a closer campground for spur of the moment wknd trips, I drove up and checked them out. As a park, it is beautiful. It is heavily wooded, has a pretty fishing lake, several picnic areas, and some trails. All were very well kept and clean. The staff at the gatehouse were very nice and informative. However, the campground area was a disappointment for ME. It appeared to be well kept with a maintained loop drive and a playground. I didn't go in the bathrooms, but I am sure they were just as clean and well kept as everything else. However, the limited number of sites (38, I think) are very small, with short parking areas, and very little, if any privacy. Most of the sites are at 90° angles and 4 of them require backing down a road before you can back into your site. I didn't have my camper with me, but it LOOKED like extra leveling blocks MIGHT be needed for a few sites. Of course, that can happen anywhere and we should always be prepared anyway. Probably none of what I mentioned would bother campers who regularly camp in state parks, I usually camp in national forests. Totally different vibe. Just a preference thing. I was very excited when first entering Westwood, but without being able to reserve the one really nice site (Westwood is fcfs only), I doubt I'll take the chance. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice little campground, just not for me. My review is more of a heads up for those who prefer to camp more like I do. I wish I had taken photos, but I didn't think of it at the time. EDITED TO ADD: The way the star ratings are figured by Google's system are inaccurate in this case. There are no 'rooms' to rate, therefore, the stars are lower than I would like them to be. There is nothing particularly wrong or broken, dirty, etc., about this campground. Just preference differences and a messed up Google star rating system.
This was a beautiful park with lots of parking, access to the lake, playground, and the workers were very friendly and helpful. If we lived in the area we would come back but we were stopping through for the solar eclipse. It was a perfect place to experience the total solar eclipse of 2024!
I like the trails. 10 miles around the lake. Also the horse trail goes around the outside of the park.
