On April 21, 2018, we stayed three nights near the Wheeler Pass Campground area. This BLM spot delivers a beautiful overlook of the town of Pahrump, Nv. As we drove higher in elevation the temperature dropped enough to tolerate the stay. Where we parked was a long way from town, so I didn't feel the need to continue up Mount Charleston any further.

Wheeler Pass campsite is very rustic no amenities that you are used to at a campsite. The dirt/gravel road is wide and well graded. Leaving Pahrump the road travels up grade for approximately 10 miles and the campsite will be on the left. It just looks like a turnout There is no signs marking the campsite. The campsite is just across the road from great off road trails. If you don't have g p s guiding you the campsite is just before the road goes down a steep grade. Expect nothing No cell service, no water. No shade etc. You only get peace and quiet with great views.

FYI: This is not an official campground, just a pullout on the side of a gravel road. The gravel road is well-maintained. I was able to get my camper up there no problem. Cell service all the way up, but nothing at the site. Signs of rednecks (broken glass and shotgun casings); otherwise fairly clean. Seems like a great place to bring a side-by-side or a trail bike; a good local spot. But for a passing-through camper I’d recommend somewhere else!
