Welcome to Wheelock Lake Campground, located at 3622 E Co Rd 200 S, Dillsboro, IN 47018. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, we offer camping sites for those seeking a local outdoor experience. However, it is essential to acknowledge that recent customer reviews highlight several critical concerns regarding the campground's policies and environment.
Wheelock Lake Campground is described by reviewers as a place where many individuals live full-time. A significant point of concern is the requirement for background checks, which potential residents must pay for. This policy has raised questions among visitors, especially in light of reports of police activity within the campground. Additionally, reviews suggest that the campground attracts a "lower class" demographic, which may impact the overall atmosphere.
Key Points and Concerns:
Customer reviews express strong reservations about Wheelock Lake Campground. Visitors report feeling uneasy due to the frequent police presence and the perceived demographic of the residents. The requirement for background checks, especially when coupled with these concerns, is a significant deterrent for many. The small site sizes and noise from ATVs are also noted as negative aspects of the campground.
Potential visitors should be aware of these reported issues before considering a stay at Wheelock Lake Campground. For inquiries, please contact them at (812) 487-3855 or +1 812-487-3855. If you live here full time, you need a background check etc. No big deal, right? But when you see 4 cops pull up mid night and you walk back to check it out and you hear them yell “So and so open the door it’s state police. We have a warrant for your arrest we’ll send the K9 in!” It makes you wonder why you as a person without a speeding ticket had to pay for your background check. This is a campground where people live, a lot of the lower class, dirty type. To just say it plainly. Don’t come for the weekend you’ll be disappointed. Hope this helps
We were fired-up about getting a spot next to the lake. Then we read each of us would need to pass a background check. They wanted US to pay for it! All for the privilege of paying them $3000.00 for the site. We read the reviews, seems like the ones already there need a background check. We drove down to look at the sites. There were three in a row. They were so small you would have problems getting the camper in place and you'd have neighbors so close you could hear them snore. We read that people ride ATVs all night long, so not so peaceful.
We were going to camp at this campground, I have a new job in the area. Muddy roads potholes Ragdoll rundown RVs and mobile homes you can see a lot of razors and other karts and stuff that make noise you talk to the people and they say Well they're trying to get it to be better they've owned it for 4 years how much more time do you need it looks like a third world country I would not feel safe leaving my family there while I go to work decided to drive 30 more minutes away from the job site
Not like anyplace we have ever camped before. We had a corner site which was awful. The amount of golf carts, atv, razors and a dirt bike is ridiculous with everyone driving no matter what the age or alcohol consumption. At night is even more fun, all vehicles come out in force in 1 hour we had 40 drive by our site, and it lasts until at least 1:15am. Let's not forget the fireworks in the campground, with everyone so close I can't believe a trailer didn't catch on fire. There is very few site markers and the office closes at 6pm even on a holiday weekend. No gates. No security. No Internet and yes it was advertised I even tried to get it on my phone figuring it was our Firestick and no luck. The staff when I did see them were really nice. Unfortunately we also had no picnic table and the fire ring that we are not supposed to move was in-between the electric and water spigot. We did try to contact the night we came in thru email and no response to that either.
Unfortunately they moved a very dangerous couple next to my family. Albert aka mark Bauman and Kimberly McMichaels . They threatened us with violence. Pointed stone lights at our camper and called the sheriff's 7 times false allegations and CPS. With false allegations. The owner did nothing to protect us from these people until it was too late only after they pulled a 9mm and threatened everyone else did it matter. My 675 a month wasnt important to them . If Kevin would like to talk to me as a man and settle this mess I would be willing to move forward.. if you see a jeep with Betty boop stay away they are trouble. They call the coos on all the kids just being kids and will gossip like its a sport. I'm only saying this because no family should have to deal with this type of insanity period. I will be adding the photos and videos of these sick people...
This is our third season at Wheelock. It's my happy place. A place to kick back and relax, pop open a beer and forget the long work week kinda place.
