Its suitability for locals lies in its accessible location in Eastern North Carolina and the distinct blend of natural beauty with recreational amenities. However, prospective visitors should approach with a realistic understanding based on the comprehensive feedback. While the property management is noted for their willingness to care for locals and maintain the expansive grounds, some areas, particularly concerning cleanliness around common areas and the maintenance of bathhouses, have received critical remarks from recent guests. The presence of a significant long-term resident community, and associated behavioral issues like unaltered dogs and cigarette litter, might impact the experience for transient campers. I'll start by saying the property is gorgeous with the White Oak River weaving through it. I could walk it all day everyday. I met a few of the long term residents, and they are very nice folks. Could say a little quirky, but hey, I am too. That being said, the property has an obscene amount of potential being lost in how it's run. They do a great job maintaining the amount of land they have, but it sorta seems that's where it ends. Some resident behavioral issues need to be addressed, or the owners need to call it what it is, a rv trailer park, not so much a campground. Cigarette butts are all over the field next to the river at the campground. There is the start to a feral cat colony in the works. Let that get out of control, and they'll never get a repeat temp customer again. The amount of unaltered dogs living there will be a deterrent to any camper wanting to bring their dogs. The bathhouses are functional with no odor. They are run down with no airflow, but I have low standards for bathhouses. That being said, the female residents clearly can't be bothered to remove their hair, and one of the showers was filling up with water while I used it. The other had no lock on the door. No lock on one of the toilets either. I understand there's a lot of maintenance to be done just on the land, but the bathhouse shouldn't be ignored. I'm not saying paint the thing every week, but installing sturdier locks and clearing screens, so you can open the hatches for air are jobs that really aren't too much to ask. If the owners want to ignore these issues, maybe they should just operate a day service for paddle rentals, disc golf, and fishing use away from the park itself. I'd love to return as a camper and not a day use, but only if it starts operating more like a campground and less like a trailer park. I'm happy the owner is willing to take care of locals no matter what led to them living in RVs. But living in a RV doesn't mean you have to be trashy. Take pride in the gorgeous property you own. I'm giving it four stars simply because the property is stunning and the people are nice. But really... clean up the act a little, so it doesn't give slumlord vibes. Also, yes, it's right next to a highway. If people see that on a map, book it, and then act shocked that there is road noise, well I don't know what to tell them. I cut my fan to run continuous on my ac unit, and the traffic noise just mixed with it. Slept like a baby.
Beautiful campground all around. The staff are always friendly. The bathrooms are always clean and the campground itself is spacious. The disc golf course is huge and the ponds offer a great fishing experience. Our family enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be back.
Thank you, John for your amazing hospitality! My husband and I spent a week tenting in a perfect spot by the river. Bathrooms/showers were clean, well- stocked and freshly painted. Fire rings and picnic table were in great shape. Thanks for delivering the firewood right to our site. We thought the permanent campers were very friendly and had great stories to share about the local area. The table tennis was fun, and the nature walk was very scenic. Next time, we hope to bring our fishing poles. We didn’t encounter any noise issues during our stay. We even had a nice visit with the friendly geese each morning! I even captured some cool photographs of the night sky It was relaxing, and we would not hesitate to stay again!

The White Oak River Campground sits on a beautiful piece of property and houses my all time favorite disc golf course. 36 diverse holes that are fun for all skill levels. There are also several great fishing holes around the property with kayaks and canoes available for rent. This is a fun, family friendly environment with plenty of activities for the young and old! I can't think of any place I'd rather spend my money or time.
