Customer Reviews
We stayed here in June 2024 and it was great! The owners and staff are really nice, the facilities are clean, and the setting is really beautiful! Wooded, fresh air, quiet, and close to Baxter State Park! There appear to be a few bad reviews from a year or more ago and the campground since has new management/owners, so if you're looking for a place to stay and have any concerns, don't pay any attention to the older bad reviews. Whenever we come back to Maine, we will definitely be staying here again!
I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately my experience started with finding out they gave my spot away. Vicki first claimed that the system had a malfunction. But her daughter quickly let me know that a much larger rv was put in the site if reserved 10 months prior. Vicki then stated that the people couldnt for in the spot they reserved an the only one they would fit in was the one I reserved. No apologies, just gave my spot away. Then tried to put me somewhere that she claimed was a better spot but since if researched an knew the one I reserved was the best site they had I wasn't really happy. But because it was late an we just wanted to get set up I didn't make a fuss. I ended up in a horrible site with no privacy. Next to people that ran their generator alnight. The shower house is freezing cold as it's not heated and they leave the doors open. It's kinda of an open concept and the doors don't leave much as far as offering privacy. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone. If the spot you spend time picking out is available when you arrive your just gonna be on top of your neighbor's.
We loved the camp site and our stay. It was quiet. We didn’t have any campers around us (tent site). Kid friendly. Bathrooms really clean. We stayed from Friday-Sunday. Only issue is the attitude/abrasiveness is with check in. I walked into the office, greeted by Vicki the owner, no small talk, just kind of rude. Felt awkward standing there waiting for the check in process. Then later the next day, we left for most of the day and we came back into the campground and someone was parked in the entrance to the tent sites, we sat there for like 5-6 minutes awaiting for someone to move it. So my boyfriend went inside to ask if they knew whose truck was parked in the way and the owner was like “and who the hell are you?” He replied “I’m renting site 3 in the tent site and someone is parked in the way.” There was a gentleman in the office who owned the truck. I just don’t know why you would have that kind of attitude towards campers. Overall loved the stay other than the interactions with the owner. It’s clean and nice campground.
What a great find! We usually camp in state or national parks, and avoid commercial campgrounds. This place has changed my mind. Beautiful, large, lots of trees and privacy. Even the RV sites are very wooded and private, although we are in the tent area. We didn’t have a reservation so they asked us to describe the type of site we wanted. It’s exactly what we asked for! Very close to the Baxter State Park and a few minutes from the amenities in Millinocket (groceries, beer, ice). They have a small shop with RV parts, camping supplies, firewood and souvenirs. And there’s a pool!
So on arrival with my class C with a toad the person in the office could not tell me how to get to my campsite.(She was confused on which roads to have me go down) Had I followed her directions I would have gone in the wrong way on my pull through site. Roads are not marked and some sites are not marked with numbers you can see. Roads are rough with large rocks sticking up and sites could be more level. Had to work to find a flat spot for my class C. The person that was behind me (seasonal camper) had 2 cars and a truck pulling a boat. Because all his vehicles would not all fit on his campsite he parked them in the road getting to my campsite blocking my drive.I let the new owner know about the issues at check in she did apologize and said she would work on training her employees. On the positive it is a rustic campground and the new owners realize that and will not let you arrive after dark because as I head her say to another camper it is too dangerous to maneuver to your campsite. Had no issues with power and water. (No wifi in the park) if you like wilderness this is a great place to stay. Tent sites seemed to be very nice
Such a great campground! Vicki is fantastic! The campground was clean, quiet and so welcoming! Thanks for a wonderful weekend!
We really enjoyed our stay at Wilderness Edge! We stayed 5 nights in the fall during the week. It was very quiet except for the owls! 😀 The staff was very friendly. The utilities worked well and the laundry room was a blessing to have. It was close to town and to Baxter State Park. The sites were nicely wooded and well-spaced. We didn’t really like the “no refunds” policy as we ran into trouble with Hurricane Lee messing with our travel plans. Thank God we purchased the insurance and we were able to change our dates. It ended up working out, and we were glad not to lose $$$$. Our campsite was not level and unlike the picture online. Maybe the pics could be updated? We were able to level with 3 blocks, so that worked out. Most of the other sites seemed level. The roads were very bumpy (good and bad) and many times we found it difficult to determine what was road and what was campsite. Overall, a nice camping area. There were a couple of small issues that ended up working out.
