Great hiking/biking park. There are a variety of trails that explore the natural prairie landscape. The park has an observation tower that you can climb up. The park sits adjacent to a paved bike trail and Farm lake. The trails are wide, well marked, and mainly flat. There are several playgrounds, restrooms and plenty of parking. The park is pet friendly- my cat loves exploring the park.
Great park! Beautiful grassy sites. Our site was spacious - not much shade though. Some sites have more shade. This is right on an awesome bike trail that can take you right into DT Madison, or the opposite if that is your preference. No sewer and no water at site (hence 4 instead of 5). Nice camp host was quick to greet us and explain where to get water.
A somewhat hidden gem! A few areas to picnic, 3 shelters & a nice playground. Plus a cool observation tower & LOTS of trails. Only thing close to criticism would be: the shelter we grilled out near had locked bathrooms. The nearby boat launch had open bathrooms but it was a small hike or short drive.
William G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park is a part of the scenic Capital Springs Recreation Area. Enjoy over 300 acres of native beautiful prairie flowers, marshes full of migratory bird life, oak savannahs, and Lake Waubesa. Park is named in honor of William Lunney, longtime environmental advocate in Dane County. Park and recreation area features the Lussier Family Heritage Center, campground, three reservable shelters, playgrounds, barrier-free boat launch, group camp, pond, observation tower, many hiking trails, cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. Two paved shared-use trails, the Capital City Bike Trail and Lower Yahara River Bridge Bike Trail, also go through the park. Handicapped accessible. Dogs require permits. Park is well-maintained and monitored (fees and permits apply). I think the recreation area has evolved beautifully over years. It’s very diverse. One of my favorite places in Madison to relax and enjoy nature.
Very nice area for a peaceful walk through the forested area of prairie near lakes edge. Such amazing biodiversity and beautiful native plants! A few different paths to check out. The tower is a cool spot to catch some views as well!
