I can't speak for the campground because I didn't stay there. However, the kayaking (even with low water levels) was awesome. My son and I went with his scout troop, and we love it. Definitely going back!
Winding River Campground is a kids and pet friendly, family owned and operated beautiful campground on the banks of the Great Egg Harbor River. Kayaking and tubing adventures are organized daily, they transport you up the river and you get to land right back at the campground. Kayaks and tubes can be rented if you don’t have your own. There’s a small beach along the river, fishing is a fun activity done at the bulkhead. The sites are very large, not crowded and your slide won’t smack your neighbors awning. Everyone comes, from massive Class A to the smallest tents. Most sites are relatively level and shaded. Highly recommend for everyone !! Large, clean pool Well stocked campground store, small arcade and pool table in the game room. Organized activities almost every weekend.
Me and my family just came back from a small 3 day camping trip staying at a cabin. the cabin was pretty clean there was a little dirt as expected from staying at a campground. the cabin was kept cold from air conditioning and it the beds were very comfy. there was what looked like a stove that was very old but it’s okay bc we love cooking on the fire. tubing is a 10/10 experience you they take you out in a big white van on what seemed like a 15 minute drive and you cruise down the river there is parts where you have to paddle away from sticks and parts where it’s really shallow but it’s a nature that’s what your signing up for. (I do recommend a mesh bottom if you want to bring food or your phones) also the workers there are super nice they let me and my friend play pool until it closed and they were very kind to us every time we went in the store. The bathhouses are a little older you can tell from walking in but it still works perfectly fine the showers were hot and they give you a place to change it was a great experience compared to other campgrounds. there isn’t much to do once it gets late but sitting at the lake is very peaceful and walking around and admiring the other campers is a good way to pass time. Overall i recommend this campground we had a great time
It's a beautiful campground but they desperately need new ownership. We just stayed here about a week ago with our new R-Pod RP-193 and the grounds were great, but the first night a golf cart came flying up to the campsite adjacent to us where some kids were playing and a man jumps out and starts screaming at them. We're talking about kids under 10 years old. We had no idea what was going on but the parents ran up and seemed as confused as we were. The guy was ballistic because apparently they were playing with a small kids basketball and for some reason that was offensive to him. A crowd gathered and we tried to calm him down, along with the parents who looked genuinely scared for their kids, but he screamed that he was the owner of the campground and that it was private property so if we don't like it we can leave. He was sure to include "don't expect a refund!" Eventually the parents called the police and other folks there kept him away from the family, so he cursed a bunch and then sped off. It was really the craziest camping experience I've ever had, so I'll give it that, but definitely not taking my kids back there until they get new people running it. It'd be five stars with the right owners, but I can't reward someone who thinks it's okay to treat people, much less children that way, so I gave it just one well earned star. If you go here, avoid the owner at all costs. Had no issues with anyone else there.
I took my family here after reading the positive reviews about the wooded camping area and possibility for tubing and kayaking. The grounds are certainly beautiful for the area. However, when we got back from kayaking, the gentleman who was waiting for us began to openly critique that we were over 5 minutes late, repeatedly stating "It's just ridiculous". When my wife said to him that we were told we had until 5pm to be back, according to his own staff and program, and it wasn't even 4:30 yet, he became incredibly irate. I stepped in to stop him from yelling at my wife and children and told them we would just walk back to collect our vehicle rather than get into the van with him. As we walked away he yelled "this is why we shouldn't let n-words on our property." We walked away despite this so as to keep our kids out of danger. When we walked through the camping area just above the kayak ramp, a few of the people there heard what happened and asked if we were okay. They explained that the person down there was actually the new owner who took over the entirety of the management of the campgrounds and that this is not the first time they heard or saw him become angry or even violent with customers there, to the point that the police had needed to be called more than once. Long story short, the new owner here is a lunatic and a racist so I would certainly recommend finder a better place to camp or enjoy nature. I definitely won't give him another dime of my money.
