Great place if to bring something that floats. Lots of paddle borders. Getting a car or tent site.... get their by Thursday. The road coming up via Golden you need a 4x4. The route via Boulder I hear is easy entry. I saw some sedans roll in and couldn’t fathom how they made it. Awesome views. Not great hiking but I did see some mountain bike crowds where you turn off the pavement.

Peaceful and beautiful. Be aware that there are a lot of construction going on as of Sep. 2022. However, the north side parking is still open where you can walk your way to the reservoir.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever camped. You need 4x4 drive to reach to the camp sites and it’s first come basis. Very difficult to get a spot over the weekends. Will definitely come back again.

Beautiful area! Most of the campsites have great views. Some shaded and some not. During the late Spring-Early Fall the spots fill up quickly on the weekend. The road in is passable in passenger cars if it’s not been washed out with ruts & dry. Definitely ideal for an SUV. Be aware that you can’t swim in the reservoir, only paddle board, canoe, etc. Check to see if there’s a fire ban ahead of time or bring a propane stove as a backup.

one of my favorite places. the hike is easy, my dog and i made it without any trouble. people on the trail were pretty courteous. driving out to the campsites/lake parking is the best part. my grand cherokee does it with little issue, but you definitely need 4wd and some decent clearance to get through. there are rarely people out when i go on weekdays (currently fall). you can paddle board during the summer and i’m sad i miss that, it’s a lovely, quiet place.
