🌲 Welcome to Wood Lake Campground: A Quiet, Family Gem in Taylor County
For Wisconsin families and solo travelers seeking an affordable, picturesque, and genuinely quiet camping experience, Wood Lake Campground stands out as a true local favorite. Tucked away in the beautiful Taylor County Forest, just east of Rib Lake, this campground offers the perfect blend of rustic simplicity and family-friendly amenities. It is an ideal spot to set up a tent, park a small trailer, and instantly feel immersed in the tranquility of the Northwoods.
Operated as part of the Wood Lake County Park, this destination is consistently praised by local users for its cleanliness and quiet atmosphere. The campsites are surrounded by natural forest, with some offering enough seclusion to feel like you have the woods all to yourself. Customers love the practical, well-maintained facilities, especially the clean vault toilets and the presence of two separate playgrounds—one conveniently located near the beach and another nestled right among the campsites, ensuring entertainment is always close for the kids. With sites priced affordably and located on a serene, non-motorized lake, Wood Lake offers tremendous value for a classic Wisconsin camping vacation.
📍 Location and Accessibility
Wood Lake Campground is located in the northeastern corner of Taylor County, deep within the County Forest system. It is easily accessible from State Highway 102 and the community of Rib Lake, an official Ice Age Trail Community.
The general location coordinates are 45.3375925, -90.0870062, with the park entrance accessible via Wood Lake Ave, Rib Lake, WI 54470. Specifically, it is located approximately three to seven miles east of Highway 102, depending on the route taken. Its location within the Taylor County Forest makes it a great jumping-off point for exploring the thousands of acres of public land in the area, offering a truly secluded feel while still being relatively easy to reach.
As a very rustic and remote location, visitors should be aware that cellular service is extremely limited or non-existent (e.g., no AT&T service reported). This reinforces the quiet atmosphere but requires careful planning—download maps, secure all necessary groceries in Rib Lake or Medford, and finalize communication before arrival. The campground road is generally well-maintained, providing access for both cars and small campers/RVs.

This place is great! It's quiet, it has clean bathrooms, 2 playgrounds 1 of which is surrounded by campsites, a beach with the other playground, and a pavilion for parties or whatnot. All sites have a fire pit. Some sites are secluded. Perfect for the family or just yourself. There's also a boat landing. Hosts are amazing people!!!
Wood Lake County Park 45.3375925, -90.0870062 Newood Ave Rib Lake, WI Hand pump for water, should be accessible during cold. 2 pumps, 1 by beach is disabled. 2nd is uphill in center of main campsite area by registration board, or to Right at main entrance Swimming beach, Vault(Pit) toilets $10/night Memorial day to Labor Day No AT&T service
We were looking for a swimming beach and found this place. Not much for swimming, but they had people fishing and camping. Nice park area. Sites were large and spaced out, great for the individual looking for a total nature experience. Modern outdoor toilets. Lots of "croakers".
Convenient access to the Ice Age hiking trail and a nice swimming beach. Drinking water provided. Many sites lack privacy, but for the price this is not a bad rustic campground.
Boat ramp is varry shallow and the play ground is in fested with bugs
