After a lot of research on lodging in the Black Hills, we chose Yak Ridge Cabins as our home base for a long weekend. It did not disappoint. The cabins are off the main road, so are quiet and secluded. In addition to a decent amount of distance between cabins onsite, they are also situated in a way to increase privacy between units. We were greeted by a small herd of deer as we drove in. We stayed in cabin 3 and it was the perfect space for our family of 4. Everything was clean and well attended to with a cozy atmosphere. We had an electric fireplace in our unit, which we used every evening, since it was getting chilly at nights in mid-October. The location was perfect for us since our goal was to see Mt Rushmore. The cabins are very close to Mt Rushmore, Keystone, Custer State Park, and most things in the southern Black Hills. It's a little longer to the northern Black Hill, like Deadwood and Spearfish, but still only about an hour to those locations. I noticed several reviews talked about the small touches that really made this place special, so I wanted to note a few of those things that I really appreciated: - Tea and hot chocolate, in addition to coffee, was much appreciated for those of us in the family that aren't coffee drinkers. - A french press for the coffee drinkers in the family. - Doors that didn't squeak - I wake up early and my husband goes to bed late, but we did not hear each other opening the doors. - Ample number of wash clothes and towels - A snack basket with lots of variety and some local cheese! That saved us one day when we were out an about and didn't come back for lunch. - A brand new sponge for washing dishes - I know that may sound strange, but I have stayed places where it was used and it grossed me out. - Mrs. Meyers soaps and sprays - including bathroom spray! - A good collection of books, movies and games for evening entertainment. I would definitely recommend these cabins for a nice vacation in the Black Hills and our family would stay here again.
Wonderful location! Clean cabins located centrally to many attractions in the Black Hills. We highly recommend you stay here if you're looking for a quiet place in the woods to rest and rejuvenate during your vacation. You'll fall in love!
We absolutely love Yak-Ridge. They are conveniently located, extremely clean, had everything we needed and the owners were very helpful from booking to exiting. We will come back again.
We would happily stay here again! The location is perfect - close to lots of attractions in the Black Hills. The cabin is new with comfortable beds, fluffy towels, etc. It is extremely clean - I've never stayed at a cabin that is as spotless as this one is! Julie is an amazing host, she left a small basket of food upon arrival, super responsive, and even supplies slippers for everyone! She is kind enough to give farm tours and we loved meeting the yaks and chickens and learning about their farm. Overall, it is the best cabin rental we've ever experienced.
Yak Ridge is the perfect place for a family to explore the Black Hills. It is centrally located to just about everything there is to see and do, and just a short drive into either Keystone or Rapid City for restaurants, groceries, and other needs. We stayed in Cabin 1 for five nights in early spring and it was fantastic! The cabin was just as depicted in the online photos - clean and with plenty of space for two adults and two children. It came loaded with lots of books and boardgames - perfect for a family week away. We were surprised to see a welcome basket awaiting us, and arrival and departure were easy. We will definitely recommend Yak Ridge to our friends and family, and we can't wait to return!
