Yuba Pass Campground, located in Calpine, CA 96124, and reachable at (530) 994-3401 or +1 530-994-3401, is currently undergoing significant changes. Based on customer reviews, this campground, part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, was previously known for its beautiful setting amidst old-growth red fir trees.
However, recent feedback indicates that the Forest Service conducted a clear-cut operation in 2023, drastically altering the campground's landscape. Reviews describe the site as "ruined" and express disappointment over the removal of the large, mature trees. The reason for the clear-cut is reported to be due to some of the trees falling, with unclear causes, possibly disease or age.
As a result of this operation, the campground is expected to require extensive rebuilding. Current estimates suggest it may take approximately two years before Yuba Pass Campground reopens to the public. Therefore, it is currently not available for camping.
Potential visitors should be aware that Yuba Pass Campground is not currently in its previous state and is undergoing restoration. Future visitors should check with the Forest Service for the most up to date information regarding the campground's reopening.
Was a beautiful camp site. But in 2023 they clear cut it, now it is ruined. Almost no trees left. Shame on the forest service for doing this!
This camopround was beautiful with amazing old growth red fir tress and campsites nesteled amongst the groves. Some began to fall, not sure if they were diseased or just too old. Sadly the forest sevice came through and clear cut all the largest trees. The campground is going to have to be rebuilt. Probably another two years before it opens again.
This is a nice place to enjoy the snow
Second year of snow camping. Verified with ranger that the campground is officially open during the winter, which is not exactly clear from websites. Bring your own water since campground turns off water during winter. Recommend wrapping your water in a blanket so it does not freeze as fast ... after 3 days we had our 5 gallon container frozen one year. Sometimes campground restrooms are closed, but not to worry the Snow Park area keeps theirs open and is a short walk away. Some people think camping in the snow is crazy, but really all you need is your snow play clothes, some extra blankets to use with your sleeping bags and an air or foam mattress to provide insulation from the ground. Benefits of snow camping is you never run out of ice, no mosquitoes and more privacy than summer camping. Ranger told me that occupancy is roughly 10% during summer months so keep that in mind.
Quiet, lots of birds, huge trees, bathrooms, potable water, fire pits. Loved it
Great birding spot - golden crowned kinglets, mountain chickadees, evening grosbeaks
